Who do you call for help?
ConnexOntario takes calls about gambling, mental health and addiction, day or night, and does not charge for them. The number is 1-866-531-2600. If talking on the phone is hard, you can text CONNEX to 247247 or open a chat at connexontario.ca. The phone line answers at any hour of the day or night.
A crisis needs a different number. Anyone in crisis can call or text 988, the Suicide Crisis Helpline. That line also answers at any hour, every day.
How do you take a break from casinos?
My PlayBreak is OLG's self-exclusion program for land casinos, the ones you walk into. Self-exclusion means asking to be kept out. A break can last 3 or 6 months, or 1 to 5 years. For that whole term the person may not enter any casino in Ontario, the Innisfil casino included. Once the break starts, its length cannot be changed.
There are three ways to enrol. One is calling the OLG Support Centre at 1-800-387-0098. Another is asking a staff member at a casino. The third is visiting a PlaySmart Centre.
What about online sites and PlaySmart?
BetGuard covers online play. It is run by iGaming Ontario, and anyone 19 or older can use it at betguard.ca. A single block keeps the person off every regulated online gambling site in Ontario, OLG.ca included. The block lasts 6 months, 1 year, 5 years or a term the person chooses. It does not reach casinos people walk into, such as the one in Innisfil.
PlaySmart, at playsmart.ca, is OLG's responsible gambling program. It runs PlaySmart Centres inside OLG casinos.
Should you set a spending limit?
This is general advice, not a fact about the casino. Every casino game has a house edge, a built-in margin in the casino's favour. Over time, players as a group lose more than they win. A spending limit chosen at home, before the trip, is easier to keep than one chosen among the machines and tables.
